"It has never been quite clear to me"

It has never been quite clear to me:
the celestial orbits of minds.
We are each of us a bright star in the great vault
of night, but also separated by the empty void.
I have careered so far and so wide
but have seemingly covered zero-distance.
If every man and woman is a star,
a great orb of fire and kinetics and life;
then every man and woman is master
of their own sky, and burns as an aeon.
What then does it mean to know a sun?
What then does it mean to love one?
By all this, it must surely mean
the very beginning of time itself.
